The FES system works on the proven method of mechanical separation by means of media filters. The Mist Filter uses a combination of Metallic filters and mesh Filter. A well designed sequence of filters ensures higher life of Filter mesh and reduced maintenance intervals.
There are two types of Metallic filters. All the metallic filters are arranged in a way that the contamination load is reduced to a very low extent.
Once the unit is connected with the Blower, it will capture all the fumes / vapours / mist surrounding its suction hood inlet. All the fumes will be thoroughly filtered inside the system and clean air free of all hazardous particles will be released to shop floor from the outlet.
The System consists of following main parts
• The Mist filtration system box
• The Blower to create suitable mist filtration air flow
• The duct work to connect with Mill and blower
• The exhaust stack.
• Whenever cleaning of filters is required, switch off the system. Take the filters out of the unit and inspect them for any clogging / deposition. All the filters can be manually cleaned and to clean them very light pressurized air should be used. Avoid excessive air pressure; it may tear off the filter media in pocket filters.
• The two filters are metallic filters and can be cleaned and reused. These filters will need replacement only in case of severe damage to frame or mesh elements inside the frame.
• The SS mesh filters can be cleaned by high compressed air pressure or in case of sticky contamination. These filters can be washed using Mild soap water.
• After cleaning and inspecting the filters, insert them in the sequence mentioned earlier and switch ON the system.
Interval for cleaning is different at different sites / applications. (Ranges from once in a week to once in a month up to once in a quarter). It is recommended to clean the system once in a month. The procedure for the cleaning is explained earlier.
The unit foundation plan is shared earlier thus use the same to locate the unit in desired position. The unit has 2 ports for duct connections. Ensure correct orientation of ports as per drawing and duct connection requirements. The system need a pressurized water connection / steam connection for filter cleaning in case on line cleaning is required at customer end. Use the Piping with solenoid activated actuator fitted above the unit to connect the Water – steam connection. The separated and filtered liquid can be collected in the drain tank below.
In case if it needs to be connected for separate WTP port, 2 separate ports are available with ball valves on the unit RHS.
The Filter status is monitored by Pressure gauge and Pressure switches on the unit. The same is fitted in a separate monitoring box on the unit. Ensure the box is intact and there is no damage to the pressure gauge during transit. The mechanical connections are already done for these items. Only an acrylic transparent cover is to be fitted on top of this box after electrical connections.
The Blower should be located on the desired place using the foundation plan shared earlier for site preparation. The Fume Exhaust System is supplied with a separate directly coupled blower that will be used to extract the fumes generated in the mill.
The Blower is equipped with an inlet connection including Motorized actuator. There are flexible bellows on exhaust side and at the inlet port to ensure dampening of blower vibration at the time of ductwork connection. Refer images showing Inlet damper, and Bellows as inlet and exhaust side. A detailed ducting drawing with identification tag marked on drawing is inserted at the end of this document. Refer the same to ensure correct connection from SPM to FES, From FES to blower and from Blower to exhaust stack. The Exhaust stack connection need site fabrication including duct support welding and duct cut out for the stack. The connection port for FES system on mill and on Filtration unit is clearly marked. Refer drawing to connect the ducting and ensure good quality welded fabrication supports for the duct holding. The duct should be hold down by the U clamps bolted to the support.

The exhaust stack is used to release the filtered air outside the shop by releasing it at a height of 20 meter. The blower foundation plate is provided for holding down the self-supported exhausts blower on the site location. Ensure use of correct fasteners with consultation of site civil team to hold the weight of Exhaust stand and to ensure No effect of wind load on the assembly.
The Basic Fume Filtration Unit is delivered in assembled condition. Refer below image for assembly appearance.
